With an educational background in psychology, MBTI certification and managing high conflict training, I discuss with the parties or their lawyers before mediation, their personal characteristics, triggers, challenges and how they have behaved and communicated during previous disputes. I determine if there is a power in-balance or safety concern, and if so, create a power-balanced, safe, comfortable space to facilitate the active and meaningful negotiation by the parties. As a lawyer, I ensure no harm is done to the parties or their children by the parties proposing options for settlement that a court may later view as unfair or unreasonable, or not in the best interests of the children.
