I have extensive experience mediating two-party to multi-party disputes, ranging from MVA cases (the matters range from soft tissue injuries to serious poly-trauma cases and fatalities), to General Liability Insurance mattters, Insurance Coverage, Wills and Estates, Life Insurance, Long Term Disability Claims, Partnership Disputes, Landlord and Tenant issues, and Professional Liability.
These cases can be set for a day, numerous days or a series of days over a number of months.
You will have the flexibility to pick the process that is right for your dispute. Sometimes it is helpful to have a pre-mediation telephone conference with the parties to work through scheduling location and information to exchange.
I am a graduate of the UofA Law School, and a member of the Law Society of Alberta. I have been mediating since 1991, and full-time since 2005.
On my website, starkmediation.ca you will find a number of mediation articles I have written that can be downloaded.
What I love about being a mediatoris that I help parties work through their disputes, some of which appear to be insolvable at the outset.
As a mediator I feel it is important to be able to use a number of styles, help facilitate discussion, wisely use questions, help the parties clearly hear the message from the otehr side, perhaps use some questions to help the parties evaluate the process and potential result. I try to never lose sight of the fact that it is the parties' dispute, and if lawyers are involved, counsel have professional responsibilities in the process and to their clients.
