Child Protection Roster Mediator Details

My practice both as legal counsel and as a mediator has been in providing services to the remote and under serviced communities of BC. In particular isolated indigenous communities throughout the province. I am passionate about bringing representation to those communities who, as a result of geographic location, are not able to access the appropriate resources, legal or not, to address and resolve child protection concerns in a timely fashion to meet the 'best interest of the child' commitment.
In my career to date I have had the privilege of working throughout BC delivering community legal outreach education with the Legal Services Society to remote and under serviced communities. As a person of indigenous heritage much of my work has been centered around working to resolve the over-representation of indigenous peoples in child welfare as well as the correctional system. This led my work to include preparing Gladue reports for indigenous accused involved in the criminal court system. I have been honored to have had the ability to work closely with many communities introducing mediation as a tool to resolve child protection concerns outside of the court process. In my legal work as 'on side parents counsel' I encourage collaborative work to ensure the best interest of the child is met throughout a concurrent legal and collaborative process achieving positive outcomes for the clients I am able to serve. I feel very blessed to be able to do this work and look forward to many more years developing relationships, educating and resolving child protection issues in the least intrusive way.

I have had extensive personal and professional experience with issues faced by Aboriginal people both on a community and political level.
