If you are …
undergoing separation or divorce,
hoping to resolve your differences without going to court, or finding distance or conflict between you makes it hard to talk in person, we are here to help you.
With our distance mediation service you can meet with a specially trained family mediator who will help you and your former, or current, spouse or partner work out your differences, without ever having to meet in person or even leave your home. The process is private and informal. The mediator will encourage discussion between you and your spouse or partner, and will work to help you find your own solution – one that you are both satisfied with.
The mediator can help you find solutions for many kinds of issues. These include:
- where and with whom your children will live
- how you will share the cost of raising the children
- how you will divide your family assets, RRSPs or pensions
- what you will do with your family home
- other concerns coming out of separation and divorce.
About the Mediation Process can give you more information about mediation and how a mediator can help you.
Our mediators currently include the following members of Mediate BC’s Family Roster:
To use our service all you need is one of today’s common communication tools, such as a computer with Internet access or a phone. The mediator will meet with the two of you “from a distance” using the communication tool that suits you the best. If you have a computer with a webcam, the mediator can use one of the exciting new videoconferencing technologies. Or, if you prefer, the mediator can meet with you using the phone or other tool, such as e-mail. It’s your choice.
Our goal is to make family mediation affordable and available to everyone, regardless of their income or location. Our Mediation Advisor can explain to you the highly discounted fee being charged by the mediators. She can also help you select a distance family mediator who can meet your needs. Our service is available throughout all of British Columbia, as well as for people who live outside the province but are undergoing a separation or divorce in British Columbia.
Please note that our distance mediation service – as we are currently offering it under the Distance Family Mediation Project – will be coming to an end in June 2012. We will be able to accept new clients only until May 15, 2012.
