Call for Mentors!

Posted by Ann.Lee

Mediate BC is inviting Expressions of Interest from experienced mediators interested in providing mentored co-mediations in a structured low bono pilot program.

Mediate BC is in the process of developing a mentorship program for new mediators and seeks to bring together a small group of experienced mediators to participate in a pilot project to run March through June 2021.

During the pilot period, mentors will be asked to commit to:

  • Participation in an orientation for all mentors on March 18th from 9:00-noon
  • A minimum of two co-mediations with Associate mediators during the pilot period (if asked)
  • Pre-mediation preparation and post-mediation debriefing with the Associate
  • Completion of all Pilot Project administrative requirements (written feedback to Associates, scheduling updates, etc.)
  • Monthly mentor meetings (third Tuesdays, 5:30-7:00, April – June)

Mediations in the initial phase of this pilot will be billed in accordance with a low bono sliding scale, and mentor’s fees per mediation will reflect that sliding scale. Mentors will also receive a fixed rate honourarium for their mentorship role. While we anticipate that this program will expand to higher fee paid mediations, interested mentors must be willing to provide low bono services and should anticipate that initial mediations will all be low bono.

Qualifications

  • Current Mediate BC Roster mediator (Civil, Family, or Med-Arb)
  • Completion of a minimum of 30 mediations
  • Previous teaching, training, and/or coaching experience
  • Comfort conducting mediations online
  • Experience in mediating non-profits, workplace, and community disputes preferred
  • Experience in co-mediation preferred

Mediate BC encourages applications from members of groups that have been marginalized on any grounds, including sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, racialization, disability, political belief, religion, marital or family status, age, and/or status as a First Nation, Metis, Inuit, or Indigenous person.

All mediators who meet the qualifications listed are encouraged to send an Expression of Interest, including a cover letter and an outline of their qualifications to sharon.sutherland@mediatebc.com no later than March 5, 2021.
