Call for Mediation Course Coaches

Mediate BC is inviting an Expression of Interest as it seeks 2 to 3 Coaches for its upcoming Introduction to Mediation Course. Coaches play an integral role in a student’s successful completion of the course. Coaches work with students as they practice the skills they are learning throughout the course.
Summary of Position
Coaches will meet with a small group of 3 to 4 students. This is a 12-week course that includes 7 two-hour coaching sessions. Coaching sessions are scheduled in between instructional sessions at a time agreed upon between the Coach and the students. All sessions are conducted online unless otherwise agreed between the students and the Coach. You will work with the same group of students for the duration of the course.
Coaches will assist students to develop their skills through constructive feedback and by assisting students to connect their practice to mediation theory and other process considerations.
Coaches are provided with a handbook that includes the course content and the learning goals of each coaching session.
Coaches will provide the course instructor with feedback on students’ progress and contribute to the assessment of the student’s successful completion of the course.

Coach Qualifications
- Current Mediate BC Roster mediator (Civil, Family, Med-Arb, or Child Protection)
- Knowledge of the theoretical principles and practice of mediation, collaborative planning, and decision making
- Experience mentoring or coaching students
- Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Experience working with Indigenous individuals or communities and an understanding of the history and inter-generational impact of residential schools and colonization
- Experience working from a trauma-informed perspective
- A desire to share your experience and promote growth and development for students
Competencies
- Ability to work independently with a small group of students
- Ability to provide an engaging, motivating, and inspiring coaching experience for students
- Ability to be flexible in your approach with students
- Ability to give constructive and specific feedback that promotes learning and growth
- Competent in facilitation over Zoom
Compensation
- $1600
- Compensation includes:
- 7 two-hour coaching sessions
- Attendance Coach’s info session (approx. 1 hour)
- Time spent providing the instructor with feedback and assessment of each student’s progress
Contract Period
April 3 – June 21, 2023

All mediators who are interested are encouraged to send an Expression of Interest, including a cover letter and an outline of their qualifications to lori.frank@mediatebc.com no later than March 20, 2023.
