I obtained my law degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1987 and have practiced family law in the Greater Vancouver area for 25 years. I have experience at all levels of court, including the British Columbia Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. I have extensive experience in complex family law matters, including property division, maintenance, and custody and access disputes. I was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2010.

With 25 years of experience in traditional family law litigation, I have seen first-hand the effects of separation and divorce on individuals, families, and children. My vision is to help shift the perceptions around the separation and divorce process to be one that is cooperative, respectful, and solutions-oriented.

For the past 10 years, I have been helping couples resolve their disputes outside of the courtroom, as a family law mediator and a collaborative family lawyer. I am also a family law arbitrator. I am one of the pioneering members of the Collaborative Family Law Group serving the Lower Mainland and has been a member of the Vancouver Collaborative Divorce Group since January 2001. I was a Bencher of the Law Society of BC from 2004 – 2011 and am now a Life Bencher. I am the Chair of the Family Law Task Force of LSBC, which creates regulations for lawyers acting as family dispute resolution professionals. I have been an instructor and coach for Continuing Legal Education for many years, including the Family Law Arbitration and Family Violence Screening courses, and the Family Law Conference for several years. In addition, I have assisted CLE with developing the Family Law Arbitration course in BC and am a coach for the Domestic Violence Screening course. I co-wrote the 2005 Family Law Deskbook.



I am currently completing my Masters of Law in Alternate Dispute Resolution, also known as ADR.
