Family Roster Mediator Details

2005
I include mediation facilities as part of my fee. I have experience in multi-party disputes
I am a lawyer and I have been engaged in the full time practice of law since 1995. My legal practice is primarily civil litigation based. I enjoy mediating and it is a significant portion of my workload.

I have completed alternative dispute resolution and mediation training through the University of Victoria, as well as with the Law Society's Continuing Legal Education, Mediate BC, the Justice Institute of British Columbia and Academy of Professional Family Mediators. I have also participated in the Court Mediation Program - Small Claims Practicum and the Child Protection Mediation Practicum. I have historically taught as a sessional instructor of Dispute Resolution for TRU Law School.

I am qualified to mediate any civil dispute, including family and child protection issues. In that regard, I am accredited by the Law Society of British Columbia as a Family Law Mediator. I am a member of the Mediate BC Civil Mediator Roster, the Mediate BC Child Protection Roster and the Mediate BC Family Mediator Roster. I have experience mediating multi-party disputes, including in circumstances of high emotion and/or family conflict. I have mediation facilities available at my office, which are offered to mediation clients without cost. I frequently travel outside of Kamloops to conduct mediations.

I practice interest-based mediation and I encourage parties to be forthright and honest in their communication and disclosure in order to ensure that their interests can be fully canvassed. I also encourage participants to be creative when considering possible solutions to their disputes, so as to increase the likelihood of coming to a mutually acceptable resolution. I consider my role to be a facilitator of communication, unless the parties request otherwise. As a mediator, I am able to offer some legal information about family law disputes but I do not offer legal advice. I encourage all of my family clients to obtain legal advice as part of their mediation preparation and process.
