Richard Singer, principal of Singer Communications Inc., is a highly skilled and experienced mediator, facilitator, and trainer with over twenty-five years of experience working in the areas alternative dispute resolution, mediation, workplace training and development and Respectful Workplace.

A core component of Richard’s diverse professional practice is in the area of family mediation. He has been mediating family matters since he started out as a mediator and has conducted hundreds of family mediations.

Richard is acutely aware that separation and divorce is a time of immense change for families, fraught with emotional upheaval and uncertainly and the need to move forward in resolving the critical issues that face separating couples during this difficult period. Plans for the children, division of property, and financial arrangements all need to be worked out. With this in mind, Richard’s approach in family mediation is to guide parties through an interest-based exploration and negotiation of these important family issues with a goal of reaching a fair and enduring agreement that takes into consideration what is in the best interests of the children, and, as best possible, meets the needs and interests of both parties.

Richard holds a Masters' Degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia, a Certificate in Conflict Resolution from the Justice Institute of British Columbia's Centre for Conflict Resolution, and he has received certification as a Family Relations Mediator through Family Mediation Canada. Richard is currently a Roster member of both the Family and Civil Roster of Mediators through Mediate BC and is a Roster mediator with the following programs: Child Protection Mediation Program through the BC Ministry of Justice, the Court Mediation Program through Mediate BC, the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner under the Police Act, and the Canadian Human Rights Commission.
