Civil Roster Mediator Details

1992
N/A
I worked as a civil litigator from 1987 until 2017, always maintaining both a plaintiff and defence practice. I was a partner with Carfra Lawton LLP in Victoria from 1991 until 2015. In 2007, I qualified as a mediator, and began mediating along with my law practice. In 2016, I began mediating through my own company, Slater Mediation Services; my work now is solely that of a mediator.

I have mediated many hundreds of cases in my roles as mediator and as counsel. During my legal career, I focused on serious personal injury and insurance cases, including catastrophic brain injury, paraplegia, and fatal accidents claims. I maintained a balanced practice by always acting for both plaintiffs and defendants (including ICBC, private insurers, and government institutions). I have significant experience in complex medical negligence claims as I acted for BC Health Authorities, defending their employees in liability claims. I have extensive trial experience at all levels of court in BC, and before various administrative tribunals, including Coroner’s inquests.

I have been recognized by Lexpert as a leading lawyer in the personal injury field.

I am based in Victoria, but happy to travel throughout the province.

My interests outside of work include golf, and travel.
