Child Protection Roster Mediator Details

As a mediator, my personal and professional experiences provide me with the following: knowledge of Aboriginal family systems and social practices, knowledge of Aboriginal child welfare, experience in working with delegated agencies' child protection policies and procedures, traditional dispute resolution program development and facilitation, Band administration, as well as Chief and Council policies and procedures.
I am of Métis decent. I am the mother of 3 adult daughters and a proud grandmother to 3 vibrant grandchildren.

My occupation to date has been that of a Social Worker. Since the early 1990s, I have worked within the following areas: RCMP Victim Services, Community Corrections, an urban Aboriginal Child and Family Services agency and most recently, as a Band Social Worker on a rural Reserve in the Central Interior. As most of my career has enabled me to work with Aboriginal children and families, I have extensive experience in dealing with the generational challenges families face as a result of the Residential School System.

My passion for mediation evolved as a result of developing and then facilitating an Alternative Dispute Resolution program aimed at Aboriginal families involved with the MCFD. Most recently, I completed the Child Protection Mediation Practicum offered by Mediate BC Society.

My professional background in Social Work and experience working in Aboriginal communities with families enables me to bring an array of expertise to the mediation table. With a spirit of optimism and strengths-based approach I facilitate the process for participants to collaborate and reach an agreement in the best interest of the child.

I have helped many families and caseworkers over the years and look forward to working with you. Thank you for reading my profile.
