Sharon Sutherland awarded Honorary Doctorate

Posted by Ann.Lee

Mediate BC is thrilled to announce that Sharon Sutherland, our Director of Strategic Innovation, is being granted the degree of Doctor of Laws (honoris causa) by the Justice Institute of British Columbia.

In the release, JIBC President and CEO Dr. Michel Tarko describes Sharon’s contributions to mediation which “have helped shape B.C.’s justice system, and the skills of those who practise within it”. Among other things, Dr. Tarko references Sharon’s work as one of the original designers and program managers of the Court Mediation Program, and her work in developing the Child Protection Practicum Program. As we know, these initiatives have had an enormous impact on the ability of thousands of members of our BC communities, including some of the least advantaged, to obtain access to justice.

Sharon’s degree will be bestowed virtually on June 10 as a part of the Spring Convocation of the Justice Institute of BC. On behalf of the Board and staff of Mediate BC and of our broader dispute resolution community, well-deserved congratulations, Sharon!
