Mediate BC's 2022 Reception

Please join us online on October 26, 2022 from 5:30-8:00 pm PST to celebrate growth, evolution and changes that strengthen us! Come connect with friends and colleagues, as well as celebrate our 2022 Susanna Jani Award winner!

This year's reception is again happening in conjunction with the Conflict Resolution Conference 2022: Reimagining Space(s), presented by our amazing collaborators: Continuing Legal Education Society of BC (CLEBC) and CoRe Conflict Resolution Society (CoRe), Mediate BC is hosting the breakout room mingle and the Conference’s opening speakers, Kari Marken and Mark Busse!

Itinerary

5:30-6:30 pm – Online Reception & Virtual Mingle

Join us on Zoom to (re)connect with fellow CR professionals, champions and collaborators! You will be able to move around between breakout rooms where you’ll connect with old friends and new. Each room with be hosted by Mediate BC's Board of Directors and staff. Feel free to prepare some snacks and a beverage for yourself. We may not physically break bread together, but we can sure share the experience virtually! 

6:30-7:00 pm – Speeches & Jani Award Presentation

Hear a few words from our Board Co-Chair, Robin Phillips and Julie Daum, and our ED, Sharon Sutherland. Then, watch the presentation of the Susanna Jani Award in Supporting Excellence in Mediation. Do have something on hand to toast the award recipient and their amazing contributions to our field! 

7:00-8:00 pm – Conflict Resolution Conference 2022: Reimagining Space(s) Opening Night Presentation

Hear from the Conference Opening speakers Mark Busse and Kari Marken! We are excited to hear from Mark and Kari about their experiences on creating inclusive space (especially for difficult conversation and idea generation), reflections on the connection of space and community, as well as working with large groups and encouraging engagement.

About the Keynote Speakers

Kari Marken

Kari is a University Lecturer at the UBC Sauder School of Business where she leads the Creativity curriculum for the Graduate School and teaches Writing & Public Speaking for undergraduate programs. She holds a PhD in Pedagogy (the art of teaching!) with a focus on Design & Storytelling. Beyond the classroom, she runs her own consulting practice and works with a team of incredible volunteers who host the monthly CreativeMornings/Vancouver events.

Mark Busse
Mark is an organizational leader, brand strategist, certified leadership coach, engagement specialist, skilled facilitator, and celebrant with a strong belief in the power of curiosity, creativity, and dialogue as catalysts for positive impact and change. Building on an education in arts and business, Mark managed a successful brand consultancy as well as serving as director at multiple architecture and design firms. Mark founded the first chapter of CreativeMornings in Canada over a decade ago and continues to invest in building connection, conversation, and capacity of Vanouver’s creative community as producer and host.
