I am an experienced family mediator and am qualified as a Comprehensive Family Mediator with Family Mediation Canada. The research I conducted as I pursued my Master of Laws degree suggests that meeting with participants individually before the joint mediation meeting significantly increases the likelihood of resolving the issues in dispute as well as increasing participant satisfaction. My own experience confirms that preliminary conferences are an important and useful part of the mediation process. I believe that spouses and children experience less financial and emotional strain as they uncouple when spouses are able to resolve matters consensually and respectfully. I often work with people from various cultures. Two of my articles are published in the March 2002 Canadian Family Law Quarterly. One is entitled "Negotiation" and the other is "Mediation in the Shadow of Abuse". I teach "Family Dynamics - Abuse & Control for Lawyers and Mediators" for Continuing Legal Education. I presented at the Association of Family & Conciliation Courts Conference in Ottawa and at the IV International Mediation Conference in Buenos Aires. My books, "Preparing for Mediation: A Dispute Resolution Guide" and "Divorce Mediation: What You Need to Know" are written with the mediation user in mind.
